Important information for the legal guardians and carers of our pupils
Dear parents, guardians and carers,
Please read the following information and instructions carefully so that we can together support the successful school attendance of your children or the children in your care!
The structure of our school
Our school is divided into five learning centres: A, B, C, D and E. This enables teachers to provide better support for pupils. (The names of the learning centres and classes have nothing to do with the Central European Framework of Reference for Languages.)
Pupils normally attend our school for two years. In the first year, they go to a pre-vocational integration class and in the second year, to a vocational integration class.
Pre-vocational integration classes (BIK/v) are distinguished as follows:
- A1 to A6
- B1 to B6
- C1 to C6
- D1 to D6
- E1 to E6
Vocational integration classes (BIK) are distinguished as follows:
- A7 to A9
- B7 to B9
- C7 to C9
- D7 to D9
- E7 to E9
If a pupil needs a little more time after a school year in a pre-vocational integration class, the pupil may then repeat the class. This decision lies with the school. A vocational integration class cannot be repeated.
Public transport passes
Public transport passes are provided to our pupils if they live more than three kilometres away from our school. We, as the school, always apply for these passes as early as possible and give them to the pupils as soon as we receive them.
Unfortunately, this sometimes takes a very long time. If we have not yet received the public transport passes by the beginning of the school year, we will provide pupils with a return ticket for Zone M for each school day. Public transport tickets that you purchase yourself cannot be reimbursed.
At the end of the school year, it is important that you do not throw away your public transport passes, as they will remain valid for part of the upcoming school year. Pupils will be informed of how long the passes will remain valid for at the end of the school year.
How can parents and guardians help?
a) Attendance:
In order to learn well, it is important that pupils come to school regularly. Pupils will also not be awarded their certificates if they miss too many school days.
Please support your children or the children in your care with their attendance and try to schedule any appointments after school hours! You can consult pupils’ exact lesson times on the timetables that they receive from the school or that they can view in the WebUntis app.
b) Leave of absence:
If you know in advance that your children or the children in your care will not be able to attend school due to special circumstances, you must discuss this with us beforehand and apply for a leave of absence. The school will decide whether or not to approve this application.
c) Illness:
If a pupil is ill and cannot come to school, it is important that:
- you notify the school of this in the morning (usually via an app message), and
- you as the parent or legal guardian provide a written apology, if your children or the children in your care are under 18 and are absent for up to three days, and
- you provide a medical certificate if your children or the children in your care miss four or more days of school or if a school assignment is due on a school day.
d) Punctuality:
In order to make the best possible use of lesson time, it is important that pupils arrive for lessons on time. You should therefore plan in enough time in the morning for getting ready and travelling to school, and bear in mind that public transport is not always reliable.
e) Study space:
It is important that pupils have a quiet place to study so that they can revise what they have learnt after school and do their homework. If this is not possible at home, please also consider the public libraries or the public educational centres, for example.
f) Work placements:
A key goal of our school is to support our students in their professional orientation. This is why all pupils should also complete work placements. You can support your children or the children in your care by helping them to find work placements. In doing so, please make sure that the respective company also offers vocational training, if possible.
You can view this year's work placement periods for our classes here.
School leaving certificate
After taking a vocational integration course, pupils can attain their secondary school leaving certificate at the end of the school year. The particularly successful pupils can also be registered for an external examination at a secondary school, with which they can obtain the qualifying secondary school leaving certificate (Quali). The decision on enrolling for this external examination lies with the school.
What happens after school?
Once pupils have successfully completed our school, they may either:
- do an apprenticeship or
- go to a secondary school or, if neither of these work,
- directly start working.
The school will advise the pupils on their decision. Please support us in this endeavour, too!
If you have any further questions or concerns, you are welcome to contact the teacher of your children or the children in your care directly by email here. Simply click on the respective name and a contact form will be shown.
We would also hereby like to invite you to the annual parents’ and guardians’ day at the school in autumn, for which you will receive a separate invitation with the necessary information in good time.
